Why it's the safest yes: A real square-rigged sailing ship — sails actually go up — so the sailor in you is genuinely satisfied, but you sleep in a proper cabin with all meals included and nothing to do. The crowd skews adult, relaxed, and social without ever being a party boat; crew learn your names. It's the option most likely to delight both of you, and the per-person price leaves plenty of room to add land nights in Rome or Nice.
Fit: The easiest crowd-pleaser for a pair.
Why it's the sleeper pick: Sardinia's waters are the calmest and least crowded on this list — turquoise coves, the Maddalena archipelago, Bonifacio just across the strait. Pair a few nights at a Sardinian agriturismo (farm-stay, local food and wine, slow mornings) with a crewed sail where a private captain and chef handle everything. This is the "relaxed but still an adventure" ideal for the two of you — nobody cooks, nobody stresses, and it's gorgeous.
Fit: The premium, uncrowded, chef-aboard dream.
Why it's the postcard: This is the most iconic-Italy option — Capri, Positano, Ischia, Procida from the water, plus a boutique hotel in Sorrento or Ravello for the land half. The Intrepid sail is a small-group cabin trip (max 8) with a licensed skipper, so it's the best value on the list. One honest caveat for Mom: on the sail, guests share in provisioning and cabins are cozy — so if she wants more polish, we'd look at a private/whole-boat charter of the same coast instead.

Why it's the Spain play: Base in a Tramuntana agroturismo or Palma's old town, then take a short skippered catamaran down to Cabrera National Park and the Es Trenc beaches — deliberately steering clear of the Ibiza party scene. Mallorca has some of the lowest sailing entry prices in the Med, one easy airport, and mountains-plus-sea on a single island. A flexible, you-control-it split.

Short version: not really — not as the backbone of the trip.
The Algarve (Lagos, Portimão) and Lisbon/Cascais are set up for half- and full-day skippered sails — dolphin watching, the Benagil sea caves, sunset cruises — not multi-day island-hopping. It's open Atlantic: bigger swell, fewer sheltered overnight anchorages, long passages between marinas. So if Portugal calls to you, do it as a land leg with one gorgeous day on the water (a Cascais or Lagos day-sail), and put the real sailing spine in Italy or the Balearics. The only true multi-day Portuguese sailing is the Azores — a separate Atlantic trip, off this theme.
